Children’s Programs

January —April  2010

Please note special Storytime schedule for the week of February 15!
Monday 2/15: Closed
Tuesday 2/16, 11:15: Music Play
    Presented by Grosse Pointe Music Academy, for children birth to 5 years old
Saturday 2/20, 3:00: Great Start Family Storytime
     Stories, songs and activities for children 5 & under and their families

Tot Time
Walking tots up to 3 yrs. old, and their caregivers, are invited to share stories, songs, and finger plays.  Stick around for a time of unstructured play.
Tuesdays:  January 12—April 27 (except Apr. 6)
11:15 a.m.—12:30 p.m.

Storytime
Children aged 3-5 with a caregiver are invited to share stories, songs, rhymes & simple crafts.
Mondays: January 11—April 26 (except Feb 15 and Apr. 5)
11:30 a.m. – noon

Great Start Storytime
Families with children 5 & under (not yet in kindergarten) come together for stories, songs, crafts and more.  Caregivers will get tips for helping develop early literacy skills, and giveaways.  This program is made possible by Wayne County’s Great Parents, Great Start grant.
Saturdays: Feb. 20, Mar. 20, Apr. 10
3-4 p.m.

Saturday Crafts
Kids ages 6—12 can drop in to do a fun craft.  No registration necessary.
Saturdays: Jan. 9, Feb. 6, March 6, April 10
2-4 p.m.

After School Explorers— Grades K-3
Kids in Grades K-3 are invited to discover new things, have fun, make friends, read stories and make crafts. Every other Tuesday, January 5—April 20
4:00– 4:45 p.m.

Elementary Book Club—Grades 4-6
We’ll read and discuss good books, have a treat, watch the movies and do activities. Registration is limited so sign up now!
Twice a month on Tuesdays: January 12—April 27        4:00—4:45 p.m.
Paws for Reading
Children of all ages can come to the library and read to a  certified therapy dog.  Drop in Thursdays after school  (no registration necessary).
Thursdays 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Ready for Winter  Learn about the special adaptations animals have for surviving the winter.  Presented by The Detroit Zoo.  Tuesday, January 19, at 6:30 p.m.

Safety for Kids Back by popular demand, join Shaun Folkwein, a Black Belt karate instructor, as he teaches               children how to stay safe in dangerous situations. Saturday, February 13, 2—3:00 p.m.

Games Unplugged   Join us for a night of board games, checkers, legos, cards, etc. Bring your own games or play some of ours. Michael Werner from Mike’s Comics will also be here to show some new fun and educational games that you can play here or purchase. Tuesday, February 23, 6:30—8:00 p.m.

Dr Eekstein’s Science Lab Join the fun as Dr. Eekstein and Igor explain the functions of the brain, circulatory system, heart, lungs and the digestive tract to give life to their creatures. Saturday, March 20, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
